Rachel is a palliative medicine specialist who has completed training with the Royal
Australasian College of Physicians Chapter of Palliative medicine, following on a background of rural and remote primary care. She is now a dedicated supportive and palliative care specialist, committed to optimally coordinated, team-based patient and carer-centred care.
Rachel has a background in clinical leadership, education and research, with priority focus on understanding unmet need in patients and carers facing life limiting illnesses, working in partnership with treating teams to minimise distress and uncertainty. She has a strong commitment to high quality, complex care planning and handover to enable shared care models. Rachel is pleased to continue her research activity and palliative care education and training through appointments locally and nationally.
Her interests are in care of vulnerable populations, including adolescents and young adults, those in residential aged care settings as well as people with specific cultural needs. Rachel also has a strong interest in pharmacology, medication management and rationalisation in the palliative cohort. She values highly the role of primary care, nursing, allied health and pharmacy and works to optimise interdisciplinary care communication to improve outcomes for patients and carers.
Rachel has a VMO appt at St Vincents Private Hospital, Lismore and looks forward to providing inpatient services. She will commence consulting in private practice from 19 February and new patient referrals can be forwarded to Oncology North Coast for triaging.
