Some advice about your first treatment that may be helpful

  • Understand the purpose and expected side effects of chemotherapy.
  • Know your treatment schedule. This will be explained by your oncologist (when, where, frequency, duration).
  • Learn about Managing Side Effects.
  • Inform your healthcare team of any side effects or symptoms so they can adjust your treatment as needed.
  • Surround yourself with a supportive network.
  • Learn about cancer-specific resources and support groups on our Useful Links page.
  • Follow a healthy diet, get plenty of rest and exercise
  • Don’t hesitate to ask for clarification from your oncologist or healthcare team.

North Coast Cancer Institute

The North Coast Cancer Institute is located at Lismore Base Hospital:

Grafton Oncology Unit

Additional appointment information: Your oncologist visits the Grafton Oncology Unit monthly to see patients undergoing chemotherapy. Once treatment is complete, follow-up appointments may be scheduled in Lismore or Maclean as needed, typically every three to six months. If travel is difficult to these outreach clinics, your oncologist can provide a telehealth consultation with you.
